The Legal Intern for the Unaccompanied Children’s Program (“UCP”) will assist in the legal representation of unaccompanied children and in the ongoing development of a newly established program for unaccompanied immigrant children in the custody of the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement (“ORR”). May include supervisory and program management duties.
Duration: 6 months.
This intern will work with our Preferred Communities (PC) program, supporting CWS in providing comprehensive case management services for refugees and migrants in the Haitian Creole-speaking community. The intern will assist in client intakes, organize client data, research essential resources, and support the caseworkers in client services. This role is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social work, case management, and assisting marginalized communities.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) provides funding for the Strategies for Trauma-Affected Refugees (STAR) program, which is operated by Church World Service (CWS). This program aims to assist underserved refugees and newcomers who are eligible for ORR services. The VA STAR program focuses on promoting integration and enhancing the physical, social, emotional, and economic well-being of these individuals.
Length and Timeline: up to or beyond 10 working days (non-consecutive)
Following the selection of the consultant, an inception meeting will be organized with the consultant and key CWS staff to discuss the deliverables under this ToR, agree on the proposed work and timeframe, and provide necessary information to the consultant.
