Purpose

The Refugee Youth Mentoring Case Manager will be responsible for providing case management support to newcomer youth ages 15-24 ​​and assisting them in developing educational, career, and life skills, and improve wellbeing and social connection through connecting them to mentoring, tutoring, ESL classes, and vocational training services. 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Welcome and orient clients to the community and culture.
  • Conduct intake and assessment of newcomer youth to determine strengths, needs, and SMART goals.
  • Conduct monthly check-ins with clients and track progress towards goals.
  • Empower clients to develop educational and career goals.
  • Connect clients with mentors through partner agency and track and document mentoring sessions.
  • Connect clients with tutoring services through partner agency and track and document tutoring sessions to ensure client participation and attendance.
  • Connect clients with ESL service through partner agency and track and document tutoring sessions to ensure client participation and attendance.
  • Connect clients with vocational training programs based on client career goals and track and document sessions to ensure client participation and attendance.
  • Connect clients to monthly workshop events and field trips.
  • Identify and address potential barriers to program participation.
  • Document all contacts, services, and referrals in client case files and maintain case note logs.
  • Complete all required reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Attend trainings and conferences as requested by supervisor.
  • Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues and available services, using current information to better identify and serve clients.
  • Represent the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Perform all duties in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in the social service field or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.

Experience: At least three years of previous work experience required and interest in immigrant and refugee youth.

 

Skills

  • Fluency in English and Spanish required.
  • Ability to advocate and liaise with social service systems.
  • Ability to establish trust and rapport with clients and community partners.
  • Ability to remain calm and use sound judgment in high stress situations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office applications and familiarity with data-tracking systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively across lines of difference with respect to race, gender, ethnicity, language, religion, and age.
  • Ability to develop rapport and form a respectful relationship with clients focused on helping them gain needed skills while using a strengths-based perspective.
  • Ability to follow strict guidelines of client confidentiality and safeguarding.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle with current insurance.

Special Requirements

The job will require reference checks, standard criminal background checks, and motor vehicle background checks. 

 

  • Standard work hours with occasional evening or weekend assignment
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Successfully pass background checks
