Purpose

The Associate Director of Development is primarily responsible for developing and implementing bold and innovative approaches to fundraising and community partnerships for the CWS local office and provides guidance to and coordination with the CWS local office fundraising and community outreach efforts.

 

This position works closely with the director of CWS local office to design and execute fundraising, communications, and community engagement programming in support of office goals and sustainability. The Associate Director of Development organizes and manages the fundraising efforts of CWS local and regional offices, including annual fundraising events, outreach to individual donors, coordination of faith-based and corporate resource generation, and donor recognition.

 

Additionally, the position fosters CWS community partnerships by overseeing and nurturing CWS relationships with volunteers and community groups. The position organizes and administers a year-round communications and advocacy program with donor and community audiences, designed to achieve organizational objectives and win community support and commitment.

Responsibilities

Communication & Marketing

  • Work with the CWS local office director to design and implement an effective communication strategy grounded in ethical storytelling to increase awareness of the organization’s impact and cultivate support.
  • Manage the creation of print and digital marketing and communications deliverable, including social media, YouTube, and email marketing materials in support of fundraising, donor stewardship, and community outreach programs.
  • Plan and coordinate execution of all aspects of annual events such as the Extra Give, Community Appreciation event and others, including overseeing logistics, securing event sponsorships, marketing events for maximum attendance, and coordination with staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Cultivate and maintain working relationships with local media contacts, including creating press releases and serving as the initial point of contact for media engagement.
  • Ensure consistent branding and values-oriented messaging across all communications to raise awareness and promote our organization’s services to the target demographic/communities.
  • Measure the effectiveness of communications efforts, establishing benchmarks and using analytics to inform decisions.

 

Community Partnerships

  • Build robust and comprehensive community relationships with individuals, organizations, businesses and non-profits across CWS local office program area to ensure continued support for refugee resettlement.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with relevant community stakeholders in support of organizational priorities and sustainability.
  • Conduct outreach and community education by participating in community speaking events to ensure nuanced understanding of CWS local office programs and issues impacting refugee and immigrant communities.

 

Coordination with CWS local office

  • Collaborate on development of annual major events calendar and key outreach campaigns.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on communication strategies and media outreach and messaging.
  • Ensure communication across offices in support of grants, individual fundraising, events, and community outreach.
  • Strategize opportunities for collaborative events and/or fundraising opportunities.

 

Staff Management

  • Approve timesheets and requests for PTO.
  • Provide annual performance assessments and manage staff professional development opportunities.

 

Common Duties

  • Ensure accurate donor/prospect/volunteer records and mailing lists, including computerized systems for donor files, volunteer materials, and financial records.
  • Build relationships with local and regional funders, support grant writing and submission across program areas.
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned by the local office Director.

 

 

Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

 

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 7 years' previous work experience in nonprofit fundraising or similar sector. 
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience managing others. 
  • Proven experience in multiple fundraising methods with individuals and community-based events. 
  • Skills in constituent engagement, volunteer management, and program management are required. 
  • Strong motivational interpersonal and public verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.  

 

Other requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with staff and donors to increase dollars raised for the purposes of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high level of comfort and skill interacting with partner organizations, volunteers, donors and friends representing all constituent groups.
  • Ideal candidate will have a passion for, commitment to, and understanding of the mission of Church World Service and thrive in a team environment.
  • Other pluses: familiarity with MS Office, database and desktop publishing programs and tools.
  • Flexibility in daily work schedule to accommodate weekend and evening hours.
