Purpose

The Sr. Migrant Services Assistant is responsible for administering programs serving vulnerable migrants in need of cash assistance, case management, referrals, and additional services. Duties include but are not limited to developing networks, grassroots fundraising, and building relationships with community partners to ensure resource allocation and integration of services. The person will also be responsible for reviewing and monitoring records to ensure documentation compliance and providing direct case management services under CWS’s Welcome Program.

 

This is a part-time position.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

 

  • Connect and orient asylum seekers to the Welcome Program.
  • Deliver case management services to enrolled clients for in-house support and make referrals to external service providers.
  • Identify support services that may assist clients in navigating U.S systems, such as ESL, transportation, immigration services, and childcare among others.
  • Assist Welcome Program clients to connect with referrals.
  • Conduct home visits for clients on the Welcome Program as needed.
  • Document all contacts and services in client case files and maintain case note logs. Complete all required reports. Documentation demands are rigorous.
  • Conduct regular case file review to ensure documentation compliance with federal and CWS regulations.
  • Coordinate with clients, partners, supervisor, and accounting assistant to submit requests for disbursement of funds to Immigrant Solidarity
  • Fund and Welcome Program clients.
  • Offer interpretation and translation services to clients as necessary.
  • Develop and nurture partnerships to meet the needs of vulnerable migrants.
  • Provide training for partners, organizations, and potential donors on the Immigrant Solidarity Fund
  • Review and process Immigrant Solidarity Fund applications while vetting for eligibility and maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Work with CWS staff and partners to increase the capacity and visibility of the Immigrant Solidarity Fund.
  • Advocate on behalf of migrants and serving voluntary agencies.
  • Attend trainings and conferences as requested by supervisor.
  • Work and communicate with the CWS NC Office Directors and the NC Migrant and Emergency Services manager to identify outreach and engagement opportunities.
  • Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to migrants, using current information to better identify and serve clients.
  • Represent the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ degree in related field or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a non-profit setting. Familiarity with basic immigration issues, procedures, and statuses.
  • Experience working with undocumented immigrants required. Prior experience in social work and/or conflict resolution is strongly preferred.

 

Skills:

  • Spanish proficiency is required.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish are required.
  • Strong public speaking skills are required.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and willingness to support CWS’ Platform on Racial Justice as a CWS employee required.

Special Requirements

  • Must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word) and internet applications.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and suitable vehicle for domestic travel and transporting clients.
  • Work varied hours, including some early morning, night and weekend work.
  • Travel to the CWS Durham office and other locations across the state of NC to coordinate check delivery for clients and partners as needed, sometimes on short notice. (Compensation is paid by CWS for mileage when using personal vehicle.)
