Purpose

The Community Engagement Coordinator leads CWS Lancaster’s robust volunteer program, supporting staff ability to effectively serve clients while building meaningful and positive relationships with volunteers. This position also leads community engagement efforts, including social media and electronic newsletters in addition to targeted outreach to individuals and community organizations, in support of maintaining a community of welcome and belonging for refugee and immigrant neighbors. 

 

This position requires time allocated to relationship and community building, engaging with volunteers, interns, and various other constituencies, such as faith groups, community organizations, and refugee and immigrant leaders.  

Responsibilities

Volunteer Management & Community Outreach (60%)

  • Lead CWS Lancaster individual volunteer program, including recruitment, training, and deployment across programs areas, including the development and management of volunteer planning and scheduling to ensure office and client needs are fulfilled.
  • Maintain ongoing correspondence with volunteers regarding CWS Lancaster’s needs, current programs, and community impact through e-newsletters, social media engagement, and in-person events. Develop print and multi-media materials to support volunteer training and engagement, such as flyers, social media posts.
  • Plan and deliver high impact engagement and training opportunities for current and new volunteers with the goal of increasing overall volunteer retention and engagement.
  • Create and execute volunteer recruitment plan to grow volunteer base through outreach to individuals, community-based organizations and groups, colleges/universities, and corporations as needed, while advancing individual and group partnerships.
  • Manage volunteer backgrounding, onboarding and training materials, including online learning platform, in compliance with CWS global policies. Manage CRM platform to ensure accurate records and best practices; serve as platform expert to support other program areas use of software.
  • Ensure volunteers are reporting their time and activities to comply with federal funding requirements. Develop and implement a volunteer recognition plan that includes gratitude gifts, appreciation events, and the gathering of content for articles, videos and social media to highlight volunteers.
  • Lead program supervisors in regular volunteer needs assessments, developing new activities and opportunities for volunteers to engage with CWS in support for program and client community needs
  • Regularly review and revise volunteer recruitment, management & recognition tools, including volunteer tracking database, e-learning program, and volunteer resources to reflect program needs and best practices.
  • Train and on-board volunteer interpreters to serve across office needs, ensuring best practices for interpreters and celebrating volunteer interpreter achievements.
  • Cultivate, build, and maintain relationships with local community partners to educate about refugee and immigrant issues, CWS programming, and opportunities for collaboration and volunteer engagement. Initiate and manage and/or directly execute small group meetings, workshops, and presentations to heighten CWS visibility in the Lancaster community.
  • Facilitate New Neighbors Speakers Bureau speaking engagements and community outreach through managing website requests and coordinating with bureau participants and leadership.
  • Mentor and supervise Community Engagement Intern, when available.

  

Digital & Social Media (30%)

  • Facilitates ethical storytelling by partnering with program coordinators, clients, and community partners to identify and share stories that amplify and celebrate client community voices.
  • Creates social media engagement strategy and content creation with a strong understanding of trends, internal metrics, and organizational voice.
  • Manage email newsletter platform, which includes building and sending regular newsletters, acquiring content and imagery, writing and editing, and tracking email performance, channel growth/improvements. Supports routine maintenance and cleanup of email lists.
  • Supports the production and distribution of fund appeals, marketing pieces, and promotional materials.
  • Regularly reviews and refreshes homepage and community engagement/donations pages for fresh content and increased engagement.

 

Event-Planning and Fundraising (10%)

  • Set goals and identify strategies for increasing volunteer financial giving, such as monthly donor programs, ExtraGive, etc.
  • Assist the Associate Director, Development & Engagement with planning, implementing and attending special fundraising and/or community events; recruit volunteers for support during these events.
  • Support CWS Lancaster community engagement team in communication strategy and outreach for signature events, including World Refugee Day, Community Appreciation events, and ExtraGive.

  

Additional Duties 

  • Advocate for refugees, asylees, and entrants in Lancaster by developing educational materials and training that assists community leaders in promoting involvement and raising awareness about refugee and immigrant concerns.
  • Develop a strong understanding of refugee and immigrant issues via trainings, webinars, media, books, publications, and reference tools, using current information to educate broader community about refugees and immigrants.
  • Works varied hours, including possible night and weekend work. Limited travel within South Central PA required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:  

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree required, with a special interest in communications, social justice, international relations, and/or non-profit management

 

Experience:  At least 4 years' experience working in non-profit, social justice, community development, and/or volunteer management field are essential for this position. At least 2 years of supervisory experience required. Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high level of comfort and skill interacting with partner organizations and coordinating people and resources.  Ability to work in a multicultural environment required. 

 

Other Skills: Superior public speaking skills and strength in written communication. The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word) and social media platforms required.   

 

Must have a car and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving history.  Clean driving record is required.
