Purpose

Provide orientation, ongoing core services and case management services to our clients in a timely, appropriate and effective manner ensuring their early employment and self-sufficiency. Proficiency in English and a refugee language is an asset.

 

Responsibilities

  • Secures decent, safe, and sanitary housing and furnishes the apartment with food and donated furniture appropriately in preparation for arrival of new clients. 
  • Meets new arrivals at airport, transports clients to new apartment.
  • Provides cultural and program orientation and information to newly arrived clients, including rights and responsibilities, federal and local services and immigrant services.
  • Provides on-going case management and services to clients according to the terms of the Cooperative Agreement.
  • Refers clients to the local Health Department for the initial Health screening.
  • Assists clients in obtaining Social Security cards and other necessary documentation.
  • Provides referrals to social service providers and government agencies in coordination with other staff.
  • Coordinate with other office staff for medical referrals, English classes and school registration, social service providers and government agencies.
  • Transports clients to various appointments to fulfill service requirements.
  • Ensures Comprehensive Resettlement and Employment Plan is created in consultation with staff.
  • Assists client with filing the AR-11 change of address form and provide counseling for adjustment of status.
  • Assists clients with the enrollment in core benefit services including TANF, WIC, SNAP, and health insurance programs.
  • Assists males between the ages of 18-24 to file for selective service.
  • Collaborates with employment staff to provide employment orientation, job counseling, job placement and training for job placement when needed.
  • Provides/arranges language interpretation as needed in the resettlement process.
  • Requests payments for direct client assistance & emergency assistance as needed.
  • Conducts home visits to clients as required, paying special attention to cases that include minors.
  • Coordinates Cultural Orientation class with other staff.
  • Documents all service delivery activities as case notes in the client’s case file.
  • Writes 30-day reports for clients according to IRP, and RSS guidelines.
  • Maintains an orderly case file for each case and fulfills programmatic documentation requirements as agreed upon with the coordinator.
  • Assists the Associate Director of Programs and Office Director in preparation of required reports.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 3 year’s previous work experience in refugee or immigrant-related services, providing familiarity with U.S. refugee and/or immigration issues and terminology. 
  • A background in case management or human service delivery is desirable.

 

Other Skills

  • Must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office and internet applications. 

Special Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license is also required, along with the ability to move furniture and donations. 
  • The candidate will be expected to transport clients in their own vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) and must have a reliable working car for this purpose. 
  • Works evening/weekend hours on occasion as required, often on short notice.
