Purpose

The Welcome Team Coordinator Program Assistant is part of the CWS Greensboro Community Engagement Team. Under the supervision of the Community Engagement Manager, this position works closely with Volunteer Specialists and the Development Team, and is fully responsible for coordinating the Welcome Team’s activities.  This individual will develop and implement bold and innovative approaches to cultivating and strengthening community partnerships and increasing the profile of CWS Greensboro. Duties include coordinating home set-ups for arriving refugee families, coordinating Welcome Team volunteers, coordinating and collecting in-kind community support for refugees, conducting outreach and facilitating presentations to educate various community groups, and representing CWS Greensboro during community activities and events.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Welcome Team program to ensure that 100% of arriving cases are paired with a Welcome Team. Welcome Teams are groups of volunteers responsible for setting up and furnishing apartments for newly arrived refugees,
  • Coordinate, track, and monitor all in-kind donations such as furniture, household supplies, toiletries, etc.
  • Monitor in-kind needs in coordination with Community Engagement Team and Direct Service staff and develop plans for procuring needed in-kind donations
  • Maintain records for in-kind donations and donations receipts
  • Assist in gift recognition process with donors and volunteers
  • In coordination with the Community Engagement Manager and Volunteer Specialists, develop and implement system for tracking in-kind donations, including donated goods and volunteer hours
  • Work with the Community Engagement Manager, Volunteer Specialists, and Associate Director of Fundraising to determine a plan for outreach and identify engagement activities
  • Represent CWS Greensboro and conduct outreach at various meetings and community events, including fairs, festivals, faith-based events, etc.
  • Support Community Engagement Team in planning and executing events to engage and educate the broader community
  • Disseminate information for upcoming actions and events
  • Advocate on behalf of refugees and refugee-serving voluntary agencies
  • Keep informed of refugee and immigrant issues, using current information to educate the broader community and raise awareness
  • Work varied hours, including some nights and weekends
  • Attend trainings and conferences as requested by supervisor
  • Drives CWS vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver donations such as furniture, appliances, house wares etc.to client homes; operates the vehicle in compliance with established CWS standards and state driving regulations; ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times.

 

Qualifications

Education: Associate's degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree

 

Experience: 2 years of experience in a non-profit setting. Cultural sensitivity is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be comfortable with public speaking.

 

Other skills: Must have outstanding personal communication style, interpersonal judgement, and the ability to produce high quality and compelling material. The ideal candidate must be a quick study of CWS Greensboro’s past successes and future opportunities, and must be highly entrepreneurial, resourceful, and creative. Must have excellent leadership skills and a strong ability to maintain and grow relationships while working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and Access) and internet applications required.
