Purpose

The Development Coordinator is responsible for developing and facilitating bold and innovative approaches to fundraising and resource generation, including soliciting new individual and corporate donors and supporting grant applications. In collaboration with the Development & Communications Manager, this position develops and facilitates the fundraising efforts of CWS Lancaster, including annual fundraising events and campaigns, outreach to individual, faith, and corporate donors, and donor recognition.

 

 

Responsibilities

Individual/Faith-Based/Corporate Giving:

  • Work with the Development & Communications Manager and CWS Lancaster Director to develop and implement a fundraising plan that outlines objectives, identifies a mix of fundraising tools, and includes a timetable, budget, and strategies for implementation.
  • Develop strategies and programs to increase both the number of individual donors and average giving levels.
  • Coordinate telephonic, in-person, mail, and electronic solicitations, as well as donor acknowledgments.
  • Research and plan for solicitation of gifts from Major Donors
  • Create and nurture partnerships with local and national businesses by building relationships and procuring sponsorships for events and programs.
  • Under guidance from the Development & Communications Manager, provides content and language to create regular digital and print communication with individual, faith, and corporate donors through newsletters and other outreach
  • Analyze and report solicitation methods and results.
  • Keep track of monthly donations and analyzes outcomes versus goals.

 

Special Events:

  • Plan and coordinate execution of key annual events such as the Extraordinary Give, World Refugee Day, and others, including overseeing logistics, securing event sponsorships, and partnering with Development and Community Engagement team for marketing, communication, and volunteer support
  • Coordinate annual fund drive and all donor acknowledgments.

 

Grant Writing and Support

  • Partner with CWS Lancaster program leadership, including Director, Associate Directors, and Development & Communications Manager, to craft and submit strong grant proposals to meet fundraising goals
  • Research public and private grant opportunities
  • Maintain records of grantmaking history, including successful and failed proposals, and grant-maker contact information and focus areas
  • Keep grants calendar up-to-date, including assigning tasks and respective timelines to team members for timely grant preparation and submission
  • Liaise with current and new foundation and grantmaking officers and staff to nurture those partnerships and keep them informed as appropriate

 

Common Duties:

  • Support Development & Community Engagement colleagues in outreach activities, including speaking engagements, Provide grant writing assistance to programs, if needed.
  • Stay informed about refugee and immigrant issues and policy; advocate for refugee and immigrant friendly policies and practices
  • Represent CWS in meetings and events relevant to the position
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned by the Development & Communications Manager

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or foreign equivalent.

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of 4 years' nonprofit fundraising or comparable experience
  • Proven experience in multiple fundraising methods with individuals and community-based events.
  • Skills in constituent engagement and program management are required.
  • Strong motivational interpersonal and public verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.

 

Other requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with staff and donors to increase unrestricted funds raised for the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high level of comfort and skill interacting with partner organizations, volunteers, donors, and friends representing all constituent groups.
  • Ideal candidate will have a passion for, commitment to, and understanding of the mission of Church World Service Lancaster and thrive in a team environment.
  • Flexibility in daily work schedule to accommodate weekend and evening hours
  • A valid driver license and a clean, insurable driving record.
