Purpose

 

 The Case Manager offers support and services to refugees to help them successfully make a new home in the United States. 

Responsibilities

  • Welcome and orient ORR populations to the community and culture.
  • Empower ORR populations to formulate realistic yet ambitious self-sufficiency plans.
  • Assist ORR populations with public benefits applications and referrals to services such as SNAP, WIC, Medicaid and public education.
  • Work with clients to remove barriers to employment and realize the goal of family self-sufficiency. 
  • Connect clients to in-house support and make referrals to external service providers. Identify support services that may assist clients in becoming self-sufficient, such as ESL, transportation, immigration services, and childcare.
  • Document all contacts and services in client case files and maintain case note logs. In addition to documenting all services, record clients’ public assistance usage. Complete all required reports.
  • Assist ORR populations to implement their self-sufficiency plans.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients, and refugee-serving voluntary agencies.
  • Offer interpretation and translation services to clients, as well as transportation to interviews and appointments as necessary. (Compensation is paid by CWS for mileage when using a personal vehicle.)
  • Attend trainings and conferences as requested by supervisor.
  • Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to refugees, using current information to better identify and serve refugee clients.
  • Represent the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Perform all duties in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned. Work varied hours, including some night and weekend work.
  • Spanish, Ukrainian/Russian, Creole and Pashto/Dari languages are required.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree

 

Experience: 3 years of previous work experience and interest in refugee resettlement or other direct social services. Cultural sensitivity is essential.

 

Other Skills: Written and verbal communication skills in English are required. The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word) and internet applications required. 

 

 

Special Requirements

  • This position is mostly in-person but may provide some flexibility in working from home and or virtual classes
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and complete a motor vehicle record check
  • Background check required

  • Must be willing and able to travel to Jersey City Office, occasional travel may be required.
