The ELT Instructor provides short-term English Language Training (ELT) that provides a bridge from client’s first language to essential English for use in navigating environments and systems within the United States. Lessons are designed to simulate daily English usage in different real-life situations, such as shopping, all types of physical care, housing acquisition and upkeep. Curriculum supports clients in all language modes – reading, writing, speaking and listening. Further, English is developed from pre-literacy to a level of fluency that targets immediate employability in such a manner as to promote physical security and economic self-sufficiency. This position is funded through December 2024.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Two years of experience in teaching adults. Fluency in English. Superior written and oral communication skills are a must. The successful applicant must have experience working in a multi-cultural environment and must be sensitive to the cultural and linguistic needs of clients. The applicant must demonstrate creativity and initiative and a high level of organization. Previous work experience and interest in refugee resettlement is desired.
Other Skills:
The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and Access) and internet applications. This position is a combination of virtual and in-person instruction at the CWS Charlotte Office. Willingness to work on a per diem basis on site at our local office.
